Max Henderson of Santa Barbara High and Hannah Rogers of Bishop Diego have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week for their performances on the basketball court.
Henderson knocked down five 3-pointers in the second half to break open a close game with Ventura and spark the Dons to a 59-47 victory that clinched a third straight Channel League championship.
Rogers dominated in the post and on the glass against Nordhoff as she scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a 40-46 win. She had another double-double in a one-point loss to St. Bonaventure, with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
The honorable mention choices for the award include Tori Kelley (Carpinteria basketball), Jenna Phreaner (San Marcos water polo) Kelsie Bryant (Carpinteria girls soccer), Matthew Eaton (Providence basketball), Spenser Wyatt (Laguna Blanca boys basketball), Michael Bryson (UCSB boys basketball) and Geoffrey Acheampong (Cate boys soccer).
Due to last Monday’s Women and Girls in Sports Luncheon program, Athlete of the Week awards were not presented. The winners for the Week of Jan. 26 were Matthew Eaton of Providence basketball and Tori Kelley of Carpinteria girls basketball.
Eaton had games of 28 and 36 points in wins over Dunn and Foothill Tech. The 36 points set a Providence single-game scoring record.
Kelley notched a pair of 18-point performances in wins against Foothill Tech and Thacher. In the Foothill Tech game, she made all eight of her free throws, grabbed nine rebounds and had eight steals, helping the Warriors move into first place in the Frontier League. Against Thacher, she hit a big 3-pointer in overtime to secure the victory.
