The Carpinteria girls soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Santa Clara in a Frontier League matchup on Thursday night.
“The missed chances are not hurting us now, but next week we better start converting them,” said Warriors coach Charles Bryant. “We actually did a better job of not getting caught offside as compared to the last time we played them.”
Kelsie Bryant scored the first goal off a perfectly place free kick from Monica Garcia. Bryant started her run a little deeper to beat their offside trap and had to play the ball over the oncoming Saints keeper before they both collided.
This score gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead at the half.
“We definitely had the chances and were also limiting them to poor opportunities so I was confident it would not take long before we widened the lead,” added coach Bryant.
Carpinteria’s second goal came late in the game with a great combination play between Natalie Saito and Lesly Zapata. Saito fed a perfect low cross to Giselle Estrada, who went on to punch it home.
“I thought Giselle had a strong game today” shared coach Bryant. “She was very dangerous in her attacks.”
With the victory, Carpinteria finishes the regular season (14-7-1 overall, 12-2 league).
