GSoc: Hamer’s goal leads Royals past Ventura 1-0

The San Marcos girls soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-0 road victory over Ventura in a Channel League matchup on Thursday night.

With Buena defeating Santa Barbara 2-1 in the other league game, the Royals secured third place and a CIF playoff berth.

“Tonight, it was nice to see the girls fired up as a team,” said Royals head coach Macie Berlin. “The entire back line communicated with one another and was dead set on a shut out.”

San Marcos scored in the 28th minute when Natalie Widmer played a ball to Olivia Jones, who crossed the ball to Chloe Hamer for the finish.

“Chloe was an animal out there tonight,” added coach Berlin. “I can always count on her for a non stop effort and she is one of those players who you live to coach and watch grow.”

Coach Berlin also gave high praise to Olivia Jones for her unselfish play and to goalkeeper Emily Stevens.

With the victory, the Royals wrap up the regular season with a record of 3-5 in Channel League.
