Jonny Hogan fired a 3-under 69 on Wednesday and Brett Patton shot 1-under 71, leading SBCC to a third-place finish in the 16-team Eagle Golf Classic, hosted by Mt. San Jacinto at The Country Club at Soboda Springs.
Hogan tied for second, one stroke behind the medalist, Mylec Valentine of Orange Coast, who shot 68. Patton tied for seventh and Joakim Flinck tied for ninth at even-par 72.
Orange Coast won the prestigious 16-team tourney at 1-under 359. Riverside was second at 361, followed by SBCC (367), Santiago Canyon (371) and Ventura (378). The tourney featured most of the top teams in Southern California.
“I was happy with our low scores and we got three great ones,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “367 is a good score but there’s a lot of good teams in Southern Cal. Our kids are working hard. We’re very talented and I know we’re capable of much more.”
The Vaqueros travel to Bakersfield to compete in WSC No. 3 on Monday at Rio Bravo CC.
