The top-ranked team in the CIF division that includes the Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team was selected for the Open Division for the postseason.
Mark Keppel, the No. 1 team in Division 2AA, will join Channel League champion Ventura and 14 other selected teams in the Open Division bracket, which was released on Friday.
The move is expected to help Santa Barbara get a higher seed in the 2AA bracket. The remaining brackets will be released on Sunday. In the latest CIF rankings, the Dons (20-5 and runners-up in the Channel League) were tied at the No. 4 spot with Eisenhower. Mira Costa and Redondo were tied at No. 2.
Mark Keppel got the Open Division nod based on a 22-6 record and a tough schedule that included wins over powerhouse teams Bishop Montgomery, Windward, Corona Centennial and St. Mary’s of Albany.
