Amber Melgoza and Jocelin Petatan recorded double-doubles, and Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team hit the boards hard in beating Dos Pueblos 63-40 in a Channel League game Tuesday night at Sovine Gym.
Melgoza led the way for the Dons with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Petatan scored 14 points and grabbed 10 boards. Freshman Cassandra Gordon added 12 points and six rebounds and Jada Howard tallied seven points and had six boards.
Santa Barbara (19-4, 5-1) got things going early with its press and jumped out to a 14-2 lead. Then Melgoza got hot as she scored 15 points of the team’s 23 in the second quarter.
The Dons travel to Ventura on Thursday for a chance to tie the Cougars for first place in the league.
Camila Casanueva and Devan Staggs each scored 12 points to lead Dos Pueblos (10-9, 1-5).
