Pierce Romero, Zach Daniels and Jake Keily combined on a three-hitter Tuesday afternoon and SBCC downed East Los Angeles 4-1 in a non-conference baseball game at Monterey Park.
Romero, a 6-3 right-hander from Fremont, Calif., gave up one hit on one run in four innings with three strikeouts and two walks. He got the win and improved to 2-0 because it was predetermined that he would only pitch four innings.
Daniels held the Huskies (1-5) to one hit in two innings and Keily did the same over the final three frames to notch his first save.
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 4 in Southern Cal, improved to 6-1. They’ve outscored their first seven opponents 43-24.
The 10th-ranked Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chris Flores scored on a double-play groundout. SBCC responded with two runs in the second. James Hill, who was 2-3, and James Brakka opened with singles and Hill scored on a hit by Dallas Bacon. Colby Taylor made it 2-1 by bringing home Brakka with a sacrifice fly.
The Vaqueros scored two more in the eighth when a walk, an error and a sacrifice bunt by Matt Henderson put Spencer Erdman and Connor McManigal on second and third. McManigal scored on an RBI single by Evans and Erdman touched home on a sacrifice bunt by Hill.
The Vaqueros will host East L.A. on Thursday at 2 p.m., then open WSC North play with a home game vs. Moorpark on Saturday at 1 p.m.
