Jackson Powell swept his three sets at No. 1 singles, leading Santa Barbara High to a confidence-building early season win, a 11-7 decision over Palos Verdes on Thursday.
The Dons won 11 of 12 points at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles against one of the stronger teams in the CIF.
“I was very pleased with how we competed from start to finish,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “Our players were fired up for this match and we jumped out to an early lead by winning the first round 4-2 and never looked back.”
Harry deBoer went 2-1 in singles and the doubles teams of Jordan Rodnick / Logan Lender and Taggart Mills / Miles Hale swept their three sets.
“Playing a strong opponent leads to some high quality tennis but also shows us where we need to improve,” Tebbe said. “I like how our team handled the first week of matches but we also know there are a lot of areas where we need to improve. I am excited for our next practice so we can get to work.”
