Carpinteria had the finishing touch on Monday.
The Warriors, who misfired on several quality chances in a tie at Cate last Friday, found the back of the net plenty of times on Senior Night as they routed Malibu 7-0 to stay in a first-place tie in the Tri-Valley League boys soccer race.
Benjie Garcia scored two goals and assisted on Francisco Arroyo’s goal in the first half.
In the second half, Victor Saldana assisted on Giovanni Rodriguez’s goal in the first minute of play and then scored a pair in the 47th and 77th minutes. Christian Chacon also scored for the Warriors (7-1-1).
“When you have five assists from four different players and seven goals from five different players, it is something to raise your eyebrows at,” Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero said. “Perhaps the Warriors realized their missed opportunities from the game before versus Cate and they were not going to let opportunities slip by on this one.”
Quintero praised the play of his defense, which recorded its seventh shutout in league play.
“Yhobanny Elizarraraz along with Eric Contreras and the combination of Jose Angeles and Edward Delgado at the keeper position led the defense,” he said.
Quintero also lauded the play of Luis Ramirez and Oscar Trujillo.
Carpinteria (10-3-2, 7-1-1), which is tied with Cate for first place, travels to third-place Santa Paula on Wednesday. Cate plays Nordhoff.
