San Marcos managed to earn a 2-2 draw with league-champion Dos Pueblos on Tuesday despite playing a man down for much of the second half.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead early in the first half on a goal from Danny Ochoa only to allow Dos Pueblos to rally with goals from Ameet Braganza and Calvin Schipper.
Down 2-1 in the second half, San Marcos seemed to hurt its own cause with a red card that forced the Royals to play catch-up with 10 players. But the man-down situation seemed to have the opposite effect according to Chargers head coach Matt York.
“Their players seemed to be energized by it as even with 10 players on the field it felt as though they were playing with the man advantage,” York said.
San Marcos’ Jake Castanha got the equalizer in the 72nd minute.
Dos Pueblos put the finishing touches on an unbeaten league season with a 6-0-2 record. The Chargers, ranked No. 9 in CIF Division 1, will begin the postseason next week with a home game in the first round.
