Peter Ruiz scored twice on Thursday as Santa Barbara High secured second place in the Channel League with a 3-1 victory at Ventura.
Dos Pueblos clinched the league title outright in a 1-1 tie with Buena.
“I’m really happy with our overall performance and effort tonight,” said Dons head coach Todd Heil. “The boys could’ve easily still been down from our loss on Tuesday to DP, but they came out fired up and controlled the tempo of the game from the start.”
Brandon Sanchez gave the Dons an early lead in the 14th minute off a pass from Adrian Gamez. Sanchez took the pass, beat a defender and juked the goalie out of position to find the open side of the net.
Ruiz scored his first in the 27th minute and his second eight minutes into the second half. Ignacio Rendon and Jorge Garcia Torres were credited with assists.
Santa Barbara’s final regular-season game is next Thursday at home versus Buena.
