Geoffrey Acheampong helped make every goal happen on Wednesday as he scored 2 goals and assisted on the other three en route to a gratifying 5-2 victory over Malibu.
The first goal came in the the very first minute of play when Ryan Borchardt finished off a stellar corner kick from Acheampong. After the Sharks netted the equalizer in the 19th minute, it took about five seconds for Acheampong to launch a miraculous 60-yard kick off of the crossbar and into the goal to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.
To start the second half, a cross from Acheampong met a diving Christian Herman to increase Cate’s lead to two. A Malibu free kick kept them in the game at 3-2.
Acheampong knocked his last goal of the day in off of a breakaway in the 74th minute and then assisted Gair Pearson only five minutes later for the final goal of the game.
“We played a pretty good offensive game today,” said coach Pete Mack. “There were lots of moments–especially in the second half–when we had Malibu turned every which way as we attacked and played crisp one and two touch soccer.”
The Rams are now 6-1 in league, 9-2-1 overall and will host Carpinteria in a league matchup on Friday.
