BSoc: Carpinteria works OT to earn share of TVL title

If Carpinteria wanted a share of the Tri-Valley League boys soccer title, it had to win at Santa Paula.

The Warriors battled through a scoreless 80 minutes of regulation before scoring in the final minute of the first five-minute overtime period and held on for a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night in the regular-season finale.

Carpinteria finishes at 8-1-1 in league, tying it with Cate for the TVL crown.

Juan Pablo Alvarez scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick after Christian Chacon was fouled inside the penalty area.

“Not much to say other than the fact that it was a full house and 90 minutes of heart pounding, jaw-dropping, eye-brow raising, nail-bitting, fist pumping, eye closing, cheering, coaching, yelling, screaming, blood sweat and tears,” said Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero. “Our boys played at the highest level possible today and the result shows for it — a well-deserved TVL co-championship.”

Goalie Edward Delgado recorded sixth save to post the eighth shutout in league play for the Warriors. They outscored their opponents 35-3 in the TVL.

Carpinteria (11-3-2 overall) will learn its CIF playoff draw on Monday.
