With its leading scorer sidelined with an injury, San Marcos suffered its third straight Channel League basketball loss on Wednesday, falling to Buena, 52-46, in overtime.
Scott Everman suffered an ankle injury in practice on Saturday and was unable to play.
Buena took advantage of his absence and kept the game close at the Thunderhut. Allen Quintero scored 15 points and Jordan Starr had 14, 10 coming in the second half and overtime.
Ryan McCarthy gave San Marcos gave San Marcos a 43-41 lead when he hit two free throws with 15.4 seconds left in regulation. But Buena got a bucket from Taylor Sturgeon with eight seconds left to force overtime.
Buena outscored San Marcos 8-3 in the extra period.
“All teams have rough patches in their season, and this is ours,” Boucher said of the three straight losses. “We are trying to focus on the opportunities that each adversity reveals.”
The loss drops the Royals to 17-7 and 3-3 in the Channel League. Buena is 17-6, 2-3.
Connor Everman led the Royals with 14 points.
San Marcos is back in action on Saturday at home against Pioneer from Whittier at 5 p.m.
