Senior Matthew Eaton led all scorers with 19 points but Providence’s season came to an end on Friday night in a 50-46 CIF loss to Rio Hondo Prep in a Division 6 game.
The third-seeded Kares were trailing much of the night against the Patriots but were the stronger team down the stretch.
“We played a heck of a game and had a great season, just came a few seconds short,” said Patriots head coach Steve Stokes. “Could not be more proud of this group for what we accomplished this season as a program.”
Stokes credited his team with doing what it did best, playing good defense and making free throws. The Patriots finished the game knocking down 18-of-22 from the line.
Bryan Sheets was Providence’s second-leading scorer with nine points. Judah Luberto pulled down eight rebounds.
Providence will return a bulk of its team that finished second in the Condor League with a 12-11 overall record.
