Joe Alvaro won four straight matches after dropping his opener and placed seventh at 145 pounds at the 32-team Arroyo High tournament in El Monte on Saturday.
“Joe just had a bad start but he proved he could persevere,” said San Marcos coach Tony Becerra.
Alvaro won his 7th-place match 8-1.
Sophomore Brian Tovar (195) was 3-2 for the day and advanced to a medal match.
Other wrestlers to compete were Adam Manchester (2-2 at 132 pounds), sophomore Adan Alvaro (2-2 at 120) and Carlos Barrera (126) and Ritchie Saldana (160).
