Jonathan Coronado and Jeffy Uyesaka were the only Dos Pueblos wrestlers to advance to the second day of the Battle of the Belt tournament in Temecula.
The tournament is considered the No. 1 prep invitational in the state. It brings in wrestlers from all over the western U.S.
Uyesaka defeated wrestlers from Poway and Central Section power Bakersfield High before falling 7-5 to Colorado state place finisher Juan Rodriguez of Pine Creek High. Uyesaka finished one match from reaching the medal rounds.
“Jeffy and Jon showed that Charger wrestling can hang with the best competition California has to offer,” DP coach Anthony Califano said. “Both of the guys get better every time they step on the mat.”
