Kristin Karr tossed in 20 points and Cora Chan scored 18, leading Westmont to a 75-72 women’s basketball win over Montana’s Great Falls on Saturday at Murchison Gym.
Westmont built an 18-point lead early in the second half and then had to hang on, as Great Falls (13-2) rallied behind the shooting of Darah Huertas-Vining.
A 3-pointer by Huertas-Vining cut Westmont’s lead to 57-54 with 7:56 left in the second half. The Warriors regrouped. Celina Gougis scored on a layup and Karr buried a 3-pointer, upping the lead to 62-54. Karr hit another trey to make it 65-56 with 6:06 to go.
Great Falls made another run at the Warriors (11-3) in the last two minutes. Huertas-Vining (19 points) was fouled on 3-point attempt and made all three free throws to pull within one, 73-72, with 15 seconds left.
Karr made two free throws to put the Warriors ahead by three. Huertas-Vining missed a 3-pointer with three seconds left and Lauren McCoy rebounded for Westmont to secure the win.
