FULLERTON — Despite a season-high 32 points from junior guard Krissy Karr, #16 Westmont Women’s Basketball (17-4, 4-4 GSAC) suffered a 70-63 loss at Hope International (12-9, 3-4) on Saturday night in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
The Warriors struggled to score in the first half, making just seven of 26 attempts from the floor for 26.9 percent shooting. The Royals, on the other hand, made 14 of 31 (45.2 percent) on their way to a 34-20 halftime lead.
Westmont found itself down by 17 when Brittany Bauman (11 points) nailed a three-pointer shortly after play resumed in the second half. That proved to be the largest lead of the game.
Westmont began to whittle away at the lead over the remaining of the final frame until Karr hit her fourth three-pointer of the night to cut the margin to just four (67-63) with just under a minute to play. However, that proved to be the Warriors’ final points.
Lauren McCoy missed a double-double by two points, scoring eight points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Aysia Shellmire also tallied 10 boards and added seven points.
The Royals were led in scoring by Alexis Perry with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Krystyn Jacobs added 12 points and seven assists.
With half time GSAC season now in the books, the Warriors find themselves in a fourth place tie with Biola. One game ahead is #11 Vanguard with a 5-3 conference mark. Ninth-ranked Concordia is atop the standings, a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. Number 14 The Master’s enjoys second place with a 7-1 GSAC record.
