The final home meet of the men’s season featured a duel between the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and the Pacific Tigers. UCSB emerged victorious scoring 131 over Pacific’s 108. The UCSB women engaged in a three-way duel meet with the women of Pacific and Loyola Marymount. The Gaucho women beat LMU 187-73, but fell to Pacific 108-149. The men’s team also honored their seven seniors today.
The men’s 200 medley relay “A” team started the Gaucho winning pattern for the day with their 1:32.64 victory over the “A” team of Pacific. UCSB’s “B” team (1:34.26) scored third in the event.
The Pacific Tigers pulled out some strong distance swimmers but not too long after the Gauchos were taking first again, starting with Dylan Kubick (1:40.59) in the men’s 200 freestyle. Senior Chase Lemley (1:42.87) scored third in the event.
Freshman Billy Mullis continued the men’s winning streak with his victory in the men’s 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 50.64.
Katie Records led the way for the women once again, winning three individual events in this meet after doing the same in Las Vegas the previous Saturday. She began her day with a victory in the women’s 100 breaststroke (1:04.44), finishing over a second before her competition.
Putname Browne Jr. (57.89) and Simon Wong (57.92) took one-two in the men’s 100 breaststroke shortly after. The men’s 200 butterfly proved to be even more impressive, with Gauchos winning first through fourth. Mickey Mowry (1:50.17) led the pack, followed by Chris Nolan (1:51.52), Eddie Sanchez (1:53.09), Andy Lau (1:54.57).
The men’s 50 freestyle also featured a one-two win, with Wade Allen (20.93) taking the victory, followed closely behind by Yoessef Tibazi (21.20) in second.
Shortly after his senior day honor Chase Lemley took a decisive win in the men’s 100 freestyle, winning it in 45.97.
In the men’s 200 backstroke Billy Mullis (1:49.77) was barely out-touched by Pacific’s Curtis Klein, and took second in the event, followed by Josh Smith (1:54.04) in third.
Katie Records had her second win of the day in the women’s 200 breaststroke, winning it in 2:18.29. Alyssa Shew (2:20.51) followed in second.
Simon Wong (2:04.73) and Putnam Browne Jr. (2:08.60) repeated the one-two win in the 200 breaststroke for the men.
The men’s 100 butterfly featured a win by Yoessef Tibazi (48.71), followed by Wade Allen (49.69) in second.
Katie Records achieved her third win of the day in the women’s 200 IM, touching first with a time of 2:05.01. Alyssa Shew (2:07.79) followed in third.
The UCSB men finished a fantastic day with strong wins in the 200 freestyle relay. The senior “A” team consisting of Chase Lemley, Chris Dotson, Matt Berry, and Wade Allen took the win in 1:23.42, followed by the “B” team of Josh Smith, Yoessef Tibazi, Lukas Paulauskas, and Mikey Forbes in second (1:24.41).
Seniors Wade Allen, Andrew Barmann, Tyler Jean, Matt Berry, Chris Dotson, and Chase Lemley swam their last races in Campus Pool today, and were honored with their parents at the first break in the meet.
