The Carpinteria girls soccer team won its fourth straight Frontier League game on Thursday with a 6-1 defeat of Santa Clara.
The Warriors scored just one goal in the first half but got going in the second half.
“We played well but we’re stymied by the Saints offside trap which caught us more times than I care to mention,” said Warriors head coach Charles Bryant, who also credited the Santa Clara goalie with making some nice saves.
Lesly Zapata gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead. After halftime, Jenny Alaniz scored twice and Zapata added another. Brenda Garcia and Kelsie Bryant filled out the score sheet.
“Kelsie and Lesly really controlled the midfield today and did a great job of setting up their teammates,” Bryant said. “Alexa Benitez and Alejandra Alvarez also worked really well together. Monica Garcia was her usual solid self and did a great job communicating and controlling the backline.”
The Warriors now head into the toughest stretch of their schedule. Carpinteria faces the top four teams in its league plus non-league opponent Oxnard in the next 11 days.
“It will be a great test for us and hopefully we can keep our momentum going into the second half of league play.”
Carpinteria is now 7-6-1 overall and 5-2 in the Frontier League.
