It was smooth sailing for the Carpinteria High girls soccer team on its trip to Catalina Island. The Warriors got two goals from Lesly Zapata and cruised to a 10-0 victory over an undermanned Avalon High on Saturday.
Avalon had only 10 players, which gave Carpinteria plenty of space to create numerous scoring chances.
Kelsie Bryant started the Warriors’ scoring barrage with a blast from 20 yards
“After the third goal we took out a player and started to take out a few of our central figures for lengthy periods of time,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.
Several players scored the first goals of their varsity career. They were: Natalie Saito, Elie Morgan, Jessica Meza and Sofia Vargas. Jenny Alaniz, Monica Garcia and Alejandra Alvarez also scored. Alejandra Garcia and Bryant each had three assists.
Carpinteria is now 2-4-1 overall and will start Tri-Valley League play on Tuesday.
