Olivia Jones and Cate Clancy scored in San Marcos’ 2-0 win over Ventura in a Channel League matchup on Tuesday night at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals did a good job of possessing despite having only two subs on the night. This lack of depth was due to sickness and injury that has plagued the team recently. San Marcos came together and played inspired as a unit to pull out the important victory according to Royals head coach Macie Berlin.
“Everyone played together and everyone played well,” Berlin said. “Overall, I am very proud of their effort tonight.”
In the 52nd minute, Jones created the first goal which was accidentally tapped in by a Ventura defender. This was shortly followed by a score from Clancy in the 59th minute which put San Marcos up 2-0.
With the victory, the Royals improve to 2-3 in Channel League. San Marcos hosts Buena next Tuesday.
