Dos Pueblos came out firing in the opening minutes of its Channel League girls soccer opener and went to beat Ventura 4-2 on Thursday.
Malia Morales combined with Ady Willett for a goal in the third minute to get the Chargers going. Willet took Morales pass, drew the Ventura goalkeeper toward her and slotted the ball into the far right post for the first of her two goals.
Ventura responded and tied the score three minutes later on a counterattack.
Morales then took charge for DP. She assisted on goals in the 17th and 26th minutes. Her long throw found Anya Schmitz in the box and Schmitz finished her chance for a 2-1 lead. Morales’ third assist of the first half also came off a long throw into the box. This time sophomore Rachel Uyesaka beat the goalkeeper to the ball and put it away.
Willett score her second goal of the night in the 39th minute. Freshman Elena Ibbetson tracked down a long pass and hit a cross from the right, and Willett raced past a Ventura defender and coolly placed her shot in the bottom right corner for a commanding 4-1 advantage.
Ventura scored in the final minute of the game.
