Sophie Johnson’ s late goal lifted Cate’s girls soccer team past Villanova, 1-0, in a Frontier League matchup in Ojai on Tuesday afternoon.
With only five minutes remaining in the game, freshman Sophie Johnson sent a one-touch volley arching over the head of the Villlanova keeper and into the back of the net.
In the first half, the Rams’ midfield did a nice job stopping the Wildcats’ transition game early on. When the ball got through the midfield, Cate’s defense worked together to slow the counter attack.
During this period, the Rams pressed hard towards the Wildcats’ goal from the first whistle. Despite all the scoring chances and tough defense, Cate went into the half tied up at 0-0.
Cate returns to the pitch on the Mesa this Thursday for a league match against Fillmore.
