The Carpinteria girls soccer team defeated Thacher 2-0 in a Frontier League game on Tuesday night.
“I am very proud of our girls and their ability to keep fighting against a strong opponent,” said Warriors head coach Charles Bryant.”They are showing a tremendous amount of effort and desire these last few games.”
In the 65th minute, Alejandra Alvarez put the Warriors on the board with a great finish off of a flicked header from Kelsie Bryant.
After falling behind by a goal, the Toads pushed some of their players up in an attempt to score an equalizer. Despite being on their heals a bit defensively, Carpinteria’s midfield and defenders did a strong job of limiting Thacher’s chances.
Following this, Jenny Alaniz slotted home a perfectly weighted through ball from Giselle Estrada. This score put the Warriors up 2-0 with little time remaining in the match.
“They did a good job of closing us down and rushing our shots a bit” added coach Bryant. “Similar to the last time we played them, both of our goals where scored late in the game.”
With the victory, Carpinteria improves to (9-6-1 overall, 7-2 league). The Warriors play next versus Grace Brethren on Thursday.
