A second-half goal was not enough for Cate to overcome Foothill Tech on Thursday as the Dragons won the Frontier League contest 2-1.
Foothill grabbed a pair of goals in the first half but Cate coach Lisa Holmes said the Rams played better than their previous two games thanks to some adjustments.
“Though we lost this match by a goal, we had more pressure on the ball and more scoring opportunities, particularly in the second-half, than the Dragons from Ventura,” Holmes reported.
Maddie Becker recorded Cate’s second-half goal on an assist by Ellie Vogel.
“We had some great chances in the second half thanks to the hustle of forwards Victoria Herman, Charlotte Monke, and Hannah Bowlin, but we never found the net again,” Holmes said. “Even still, this solid effort was a much-needed boost to our soccer spirits. We played a complete game across the field and found our rhythm again as a team.”
Cate faces Grace Brethren, the No. 1 ranked team in CIF Division 7, on Saturday.
