Top-ranked Bishop Diego struggled at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter of its Tri-Valley League girls basketball game against Santa Clara. The Cardinals made just 8 of 18, but they grabbed a couple of offensive rebounds off misses and that saved a 45-43 victory at the Brick House.
In the last 28 seconds, the Cardinals rebound two misses, and Morgan Wallace sank a clutch free throw to give them a two-point lead. Sienna Gonzalez grabbed one of those rebounds with 10 seconds remaining. She finished with seven boards and five points.
Jordyn Lilly and Hannah Rogers each recorded double-doubles to lead Bishop. Lilly had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Rogers had 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Bishop Diego, the No. 1 team in CIF Division 5A, is 14-3 and 2-0 in the TVL. Santa Clara, the No. 5 team in Division 5AA, is 12-2, 1-1.
