Bishop Diego couldn’t recover from a slow start and dropped a 47-39 decision at La Reina in a Tri-Valley League girls basketball game on Thursday night.
The Cardinals fell behind 15-4 in the first quarter and had to fight back all game long.
“We have to come out with more energy,” said Bishop coach Jeff Burich.
Twice the Cardinals got to within two points, but La Reina pulled away each time.
Jordyn Lilly scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Bishop (14-5, 2-2). Hannah Rogers hauled in 15 rebounds to go with her eight points and Deja Goodwin had seven points.
Burich said the Cardinals missed the rebounding and defense Morgan Wallace.
Bishop plays at Santa Paula next Tuesday.
