Bishop Diego won two games Friday and advanced to the championship game of the Avalon Classic girls basketball tournament on Catalina Island.
The Cardinals defeated AGBU of Canoga Park, 51-48, and routed Vaughn of San Fernando, 49-6. They’ll face AGBU again in the title game at noon on Saturday.
Jordyn Lilly scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Bishop on Friday against AGBU. Lilly made 9 of 9 free throws in the second half, including 6 in a row down the stretch. Hannah Rogers dominated in the paint, scoring 19 points and hauling in 22 rebounds. Summer Soto made a clutch free throw that gave the Cardinals a three-point lead with six seconds left.
Bishop was able to defend AGBU’s desperation shot.
Against Vaughn, Lilly scored 15 points, Deja Goodwin knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter and Rogers added seven points.
Bishop (10-3) is the championship game for the fourth time in five years.
