Bishop Diego couldn’t keep pace with Buckley in the second half and dropped a 52-31 decision in a non-league girls basketball game on Saturday at Bishop.
The Cardinals trailed by just one point at halftime (15-14). But Buckley got hot in the third quarter behind the shooting of Leah Purvis. She scored 11 points in the quarter as Buckley outscored Bishop 20-9.
Purvis finished with 29 points.
“We held her to nine in the first half,” Bishop coach Jeff Burich said. “She’s a legitimate player. She hit five threes, all in the second half.”
Jordyn Lilly and Morgan Wallace each scored 11 points to lead Bishop Diego (15-7).
Burich noted that Saturday’s game was good preparation for the postseason.
“It’ll help us get ready and be better prepared for the playoffs,” he said.
The Cardinals return to Tri-Valley League action on Tuesday at home against first-place St. Bonaventure.
