BSoc: Warriors trounce Cardinals 6-0 in league opener

Carpinteria defeated Bishop Diego 6-0 in the Tri-Valley League opener for both squads on Wednesday night.

“With the ball being very well distributed and a potent offensive attack, it is becoming clear that the team as a unit is on the same page,” said Warriors head coach Leonardo Quintero.

After an early score by Francisco Arroyo, Carpinteria took an early 1-0 lead and never looked back from there. The 7th-minute goal was scored off a nice cross from Victor Saldaña.

The Cardinals defense held strong for the remainder of the first half, only trailing 1-0 at the half.

However, a well organized Warriors attack came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half, taking a close game and blowing it open. Carpinteria scored in the 47th, 49th, 53rd, 59th and 67th minute.

Juan Pablo Alvarez tallied up a hat trick during the red-hot scoring spurt. Victor Saldaña and Benjie Garcia each scored a goal for the Warriors.

“Having won three out of our last four matches, the work this group has been putting in on and off of the field is starting to become evident,” added coach Quintero.

With the victory, Carpinteria improves their record to 3-2-1 (1-0-0 league) this season. The Warriors head on the road to face Nordhoff on Friday.

On the other hand, the Bishop falls to 2-6 overall (0-1-0 league) on the year. The Cardinals play next on the road versus Santa Paula on Friday.
