Carpinteria took over first place in the Tri-Valley League for boys soccer with a 2-0 win over Santa Paula on Wednesday night at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.
Diego Contreras broke a scoreless game in the 51st minute, finishing a cross from Francisco Arroyo. The Warriors put together a nice combination play that resulted in the first varsity goal for Miguel Palau in the 72nd minute. Christian Chacon and Benjie Garcia combined with Palau, who entered the match three minutes before scoring.
“It was a great effort overall by the Warriors, who left it all on the field to be in first place in the TVL,” coach Leo Quintero said. “Edward Delgado and Jose Angeles again combined for the shutout for their second game in a row. We look to go full steam ahead in the second leg of league.”
The Warriors (7-3-1, 4-1-0) play at Bishop Diego on Friday.
