San Marcos fought to a 1-1 draw versus Hueneme in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday.
“I am very proud of the way the boys played today,” said Royals head coach Rob Lauderdale. “We continue to make improvements and I am pleased with our results thus far this season.”
San Marcos jumped out with a 1-0 lead with a goal from Kevin Guzman. The senior striker received the ball from 30 yards out and proceeded to beat two defenders, then slotted his shot past the keeper to the right side of the net.
Later on in the match, Hueneme scored on a through ball to even the score at 1-1.
Throughout the game, the Royals had multiple scoring opportunities to gain the lead. However, San Marcos was unable to capitalize, with shots either going off the post or just wide of the goal.
Coach Lauderdale gave high praise to his midfielders Camilo Gonzagui and Andy Mandrell.
With the victory the Royals improve their record to (2-5-4 overall).
San Marcos host Santa Barbara this Friday at 7 pm in the first Channel League game of the season.
