A huge goal from Alvaro Lopez led Santa Barbara past Buena 1-0 in a Channel League matchup in Ventura on Tuesday night.
The Dons capitalized on their crucial scoring opportunity when Lopez pounced on a loose ball to give Santa Barbara the lead. Jorge Garcia Torres had ripped a shot just outside the 18-yard box that the Buena keeper was unable to hold onto.
Lopez’s goal proved to be the only one that the Dons would need on the night. In stoppage time, Angel Cervantes made a great save on a Buena free kick on top of the 18-yard box to preserve the win. This was the team’s 10th shutout on the season.
With the victory, Santa Barbara improves to (14-3-4 overall, 4-1 league). The Dons travel to face Dos Pueblos in a pivotal matchup on Tuesday.
