The Dos Pueblos soccer team got things done early on Thursday, scoring two goals in the first nine minutes en route to a 3-0 victory over Ventura at O’Leary Stadium.
Jessie Jimenez was the first to find the back of the net as he was able to strike a volley past the goalkeeper in only the fourth minute of the game. Only a few moments later the Chargers extended their early lead after Calvin Schipper converted on a headed cross from Tim Heiduk on a free-kick opportunity, marking the last goal of the first half.
“Our defense and midfield really played lights out and won many of the 50-50 balls, keeping the dominant first half shutout going,” said coach Matt York.
The final goal was scored in 66th minute when a free ball sent by Jimenez was knocked in by Emmanuel Nwosu on an empty net.
Walter Hernandez was awarded MVP on the day for his explosive offensive performance in dishing out balls and setting up opportunities.
The Chargers improve to 6-6-3 and will travel across town to Peabody Stadium where they will face Santa Barbara High on Tuesday.
