A shorthanded Carpinteria boys basketball team fell to Nordhoff, 31-29, in a Tri-Valley League game on Friday at Carpinteria.
The Warriors (7-10, 1-4) were missing starters Omar Miranda and Noah Reed. Their absence was felt at the offensive end.
“It was a very low scoring game as neither team shot the ball incredibly well,” Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward said. “It was also due to good defense by both teams. We played very well without our starting back court, executed our game plan, and led the entire game up until the last minute in the game. Nordhoff was able to come back. They hit a few shots and got to the line to complete the comeback.”
Mason Picerni had a big night for the Warriors with 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Malcolm Gordon added nine points.
“We had a couple of great chances to tie or win the game within the last 10 seconds but were just unable to put the ball in the hole,” said Ward, who praised Jonathan Cleek, Malcolm Gordon and Aaron Drain for sharing the ball-handling responsibilities in Miranda’s absence.
