Nick Thomas scored 10 points in the first quarter, sparking Cate to a 59-52 Frontier League boys basketball victory in overtime against Ventura Foothill Tech on Wednesday. It was the Rams’ first win in league.
Thomas finished with a game-high 23 points for the Rams. Clinton Hall was clutch in the fourth quarter, scoring six of his 13 points in the final four minutes.
“It was a close game that ultimately came down to hitting free throws down the stretch and Cate, shooting 4 for 9, hit just enough to pull off the victory,” said coach Bryan Rodriguez.
Seniors Kian O’Connor and Noah Somaratne were all over the court defensively and combined for 10 points and 4 steals. Freshman Marko Pliso had 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Cate’s overall record is now 5-6 and 1-4 in league. The Rams hit the road on Friday to take on Fillmore at 7 pm.
