JT Stone has officially been named as the varsity football coach at Santa Barbara High, Athletic Director Joe Chenoweth announced Wednesday.
Stone held the position on an interim basis this season. He took over from Doug Caines, who was removed as coach in late July.
The Dons went 4-6 in his first season as a high school head coach, with four games decided by eight points or less.
“JT demonstrates the necessary qualities to lead our program, with an emphasis of athletes excelling in the classroom,” Chenoweth said in a statement. “JT understands the importance of being transparent with his players, parents, athletic director and administration. He holds his athletes accountable while continuing to mentor them to make good decisions on and off the field.
“More than anything, JT is passionate about teaching the game of football. He has high expectations for his players, coaching staff and himself. We are excited for the future of the Dons program under his leadership.”
Stone has several starters returning next season, including quarterback Brent Peus, and will have a group of players off a successful junior varsity team.
