Bolden Brace and the Santa Barbara High boys basketball team blitzed Santa Maria, 73-53, to advance to the semifinals of the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic on Saturday night at J.R. Richards Gym.
Brace was red-hot, making 14 of 20 shots en route to 34 points. Ben Clay added 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Chris Givens chipped in eight points.
The Dons will play defending champion Newbury Park in one semifinal at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The other semifinal will pit Thousand Oaks against Glendora at 6 p.m.
Thousand Oaks scored 107 points for the second night in a row. The Lancers routed Carpinteria, 107-54, on Saturday. Glendora blasted Canoga Park, 71-32. Newbury Park edged North Hollywood, 52-49.
Marcos Schneider scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, but Bishop Diego struggled to grab rebounds down the stretch and suffered a 57-52 decision against Lompoc in a consolation round game.
“Lompoc grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the final five minutes to seal the victory,” Bishop coach Jeff Koval said.
The game was physical and close throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points.
Will Goodwin scored 12 points and knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half. Schneider also made three triples. Alexis Herrera scored eight points for the Cardinals, who fell to 4-10.
