Westlake took advantage of a slow-starting Dos Pueblos and roared to a 66-22 basketball victory over the Chargers in an opening game of the Ventura County Tournament on Monday night at Camarillo High.
The Warriors, who have several players back from a team that went 25-6 last season, led 22-4 after the first period and 42-12 at halftime.
Led by 6-9 Michael Hanshaw’s 13 points, Westlake kept the pressure on DP in the third quarter.
“We couldn’t get enough momentum to cut into their lead,” said DP coach Joe Zamora.
DP (1-2) is back in action Tuesday against Oxnard.
