Cory Blau put on his hard hat and put in a good night’s work for the Westmont men’s basketball team, leading the Warriors to a 77-63 win over NAIA defending national champion and top-ranked Vanguard in the GSAC opener on Tuesday night in Costa Mesa.
Blau scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Billy Keller and Sean Harman added 12 and 11 points respectively, as Westmont won its third straight game.
“We just beat the reigning NAIA National Champions who has four returning starters from last year. That was a great win for us,” exclaimed Westmont coach John Moore.
The Warriors held the lead for the entire 40 game. They contained the Lions to a 29 percent shooting.
“Anytime you get a team on their home court shooting 29 percent in the field and 7 percent from the three-point line, you know you’re doing something right,” said Moore
“It was a great team win that was led by lots of people,” he added. “Britton Williams was brilliant in terms of how he set the tone for us. Nate Marsing made senior play after senior play and got some key shots in. Cory Blau was absolutely spectacular. To come up with 13 rebounds and go 13 of 14 from the free throw line is quite impressive.”
