Mattea Kilstofte and Madison Hale won two matches at the CIF Individual Tennis Tournament on Friday to advance to Monday’s doubles semifinals, while teammate Summer Garrison saw her run in the singles tournament end with a loss to Peninsula’s Ena Shibahara.
Kilstofte and Hale defeated Hailey Hairrell and Hope Hairrell of Los Alamitos 6-4, 6-0 in the Round of 16, followed by a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Thousand Oaks’ Mahli Silpachai and Emily Ackerman.
“Mattea and Madison played great tennis today and defeated two talented teams. It is a great accomplishment to be in the final four of of the doubles of all high schools in Southern California,” said Dons head coach Greg Tebbe.
Garrison lost to Shibahara, the No. 1 seed, 6-0, 6-1.
“Summer played great tennis today but her opponent was just too strong,” Tebbe said. “Summer had a tough draw and just battled for every point as she has done all season long.”
