Oxnard scored two goals in the second half and defeated San Marcos 3-1 in a girls soccer season opener on Thursday.
Lucia Lynn tied the score at 1-1 for the Royals in the 27th minute off a long set piece from Danielle Anderson.
Oxnard exposed the Royals’ youth and newness in the second half.
“The girls are still learning about one another and learning how to work together as a unit — and I’m still learning, too,” said San Marcos coach Macie Berlin. “We had chances but struggled to put it all together. The want was there, but it was hurried and frantic. We’ll calm down. We’ll grow together, and we’ll do it quickly.”
