Sofia Fay scored in the 78th minute, lifting Laguna Blanca to a 4-3 girls soccer win over Santa Clarita Christian on Saturday.
Kelly Bickett fired a shot that was deflected in the 18-yard box and fell at the feet of Fay. The freshman’s shot hit off the post and into the goal.
Phoebe Madsen opened the scoring in the 12th minute off an assist from Bickett.
Bickett gave the Owls a 2-0 lead off a long throw-in from Madsen in the 21st minute.
Santa Clarita Christian responded with goals in the 31st and 37th minutes. It took the lead two minutes into the second half when a cross took a bad deflection off a defender, hit the post, and landed on the foot of a forward.
The Owls fought back and tied the score at 3-3. Another long throw by Madsen into the box was dropped by the goalkeeper and the ball fell in the goal.
Assistant coach J.R. Eskilson lauded the defensive work of Bryn Jewett and Maddie Bonser. He also praised the midfield work of Lexi Yabsley and Julia Fay.
