Two second-half goals lifted Newbury Park over San Marcos on Tuesday in a non-league match won by the Panthers, 2-1.
Chloe Hamer’s goal in the 32nd minute gave the Royals a 1-0 lead. Hamer beat a charging keeper for the score on an assist from Olivia Jones.
Missed chances early in the second half to take a two-goal lead came to haunt the Royals as Newbury Park equalized in the 61st minute and took the lead in the 68th.
“I thought we played well, but we didn’t play our game for the full 80 minutes,” said San Marcos head coach Macie Berlin. “The good stuff is just so good – it makes the disconnected moments stand out that much more, and it looks like we’ve got work to do.”
The Royals play again on Friday and Saturday of this week hosting the San Marcos Winter Classic.
