Santa Barbara High dropped two matches on the first day of the North Orange County Classic girls soccer tournament.
The Dons opened with a 2-0 loss against Brea Olinda and then fell to La Mirada 3-1. Stephanie Rodriquez converted a penalty kick for Santa Barbara’s only score on the day.
Coach Jill Wolf praised the midfield play of Bailey Wolf and Kylie Schmidt against La Mirada. She said Katherine Hawkes made some great saves in goal and Jackie Hewitt did a good job anchoring the defense in the Brea Olinda match.
“We brought up four JV players to fill out a thin roster, with several starters missing, and they rose to the challenge of playing at the next level,” coach Wolf said. “Gardenia Maya, Olivia DiFillipo, Alissa Becerra and Payton Wolf, I was really encouraged by their play today.”
