Dos Pueblos’ girls soccer team fought to a 2-2 draw versus Newbury Park at Scott O’Leary Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Chargers started off well by taking the game to the Panthers. After some good approach work, senior Ady Willett narrowly missed an early scoring chance in the 4th minute.
Dos Pueblos was rewarded for their early dominance with a goal from Idalis Rodriquez. The scoring sequence took place when Malia Morales launched a long throw-in toward Rodriquez, who beat the Panthers’ goalkeeper to the ball and capitalized.
In the 21st minute, Dos Pueblos had another scoring chance when Anyssa Lomeli put herself in a good position, only to be denied by Newbury Park’s keeper.
The Chargers extended their lead to 2-0 when captain Angela Penza scored from 20 yards on a set piece.
Just before the break, the Panthers were able to reduce the deficit when Emily Curtis scored the first of hertwo goals. The senior blasted a 25-yard shot past keeper Dos Pueblos’ goalkeeper Paige Mathison.
“This goal seemed to spark Newbury Park and after the break they dominated play for long periods,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Hugh Hollis.
The Chargers defense held firm until the 67th minute, when Curtis stepped up to react first to a loose ball inside the 6-yard box. This goal tied the game at 2-2.
