Cate got goals from three different players in a 3-0 non-league girls soccer win over Laguna Blanca on a soggy pitch at the Hope Ranch campus.
Isabela Montes De Oca scored the first goal five minutes into the game off a cross from Charlotte Monke. Anna Graves made it 2-0, finishing a cross from Ellie Vogel.
Hannah Bowlin scored the third goal, putting away a cross from Lucia Johnson.
Coach Lisa Holmes praised the play of her defense.
“The Cate defense was money the whole second half,”she said. “Sumner Matthews shut down Laguna’s biggest scoring threat in the middle, Lucia Johnson barked out marking orders from sweeper, Taylor Bigony, Mari Espinoza, Kiyomi Ran, and Sophie Johnson took turns on the outside back, and Maddie Becker ran up and down the middle of the field to slow the Laguna transition.”
