It was Santa Barbara’s Chiara Bernardi who got the ball rolling on Thursday as she blasted in two goals within only 20 minutes of kickoff to take an early lead against Hueneme High School. The Dons were quick to follow in Bernardi’s footsteps and went on to win 4-0.
Bernardi’s first goal was a strike from the top of the box in the 13th minute and her second came shortly after when she finished a beautiful cross from Alea Hyatt.
After a defensive battle toward the end of the first half, the Dons were keen on picking up their offensive slack in the second half as Demi Jimenez punched one in off of a rebound in the 50th minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Hyatt, no more than two minutes later, breezed by a defender and slipped one past the goalie to score what would eventually come to be the final goal of the game.
Santa Barbara improves to 2-1 with the victory and will go on to host Righetti on Wednesday.
